Dear Residents,
 
     The Village conducted smoke testing of its sewer system on June 3 and 4 of 2025.  The purpose of this test is to help the Village identify storm water that is being introduced into our sanitary sewer system.  This is known in the wastewater industry as i-n-i(inflow and infiltration).  The i-n-i is problematic for several reasons but the two most important are damage to our wastewater facility and the possibility of dangerous sewer gases entering your home or structure.  We average a daily volume at our wastewater treatment plant of approximately 90,000 gallons per day.  This number increases on a heavy rain event or snow melt event to a range of 300,000 to 500,000 gallons per day.  This causes extensive damage to the facility and dilutes the bacteria needed for the treatment process.  The Ohio EPA requires that we make every effort possible to remedy i-n-i.
 
     If you receive this letter or if you had smoke in your home on the day of testing, it’s possible that you have storm water plumbed to and entering the sanitary system or other plumbing deficiencies or problems.  The Village will be searching for these defects in the future through camera use and other means.  We encourage you to contact a plumber to remedy any possible i-n-i problems.  If you have sump pumps, tiles, or downspouts plumbed to the sanitary sewer this is illegal, and we recommend you have a plumber correct asap.  Sump pumps within the Village should be plumbed to your yard for discharge or to the street or a storm sewer system if possible.

Due to Veterans Day, the North Lewisburg November 2025 Council meeting will be held on Monday, November 10, 2025 at 6:30pm.  The location of the meeting is 60 E Maple St. North Lewisburg, Ohio.
